What is
copper?
Copper is one of the most useful and widely recycled metals out there. It’s strong, durable, and an incredible conductor of electricity, which is why you’ll find it used in wiring, plumbing, electronics, and industrial machinery. It’s also corrosion-resistant and antibacterial, making it a go-to material for pipes, roofing, and medical equipment.
One of the best things about copper? It’s 100% recyclable and never loses quality. That means the copper in your old wires, pipes, or radiators could be melted down and turned into something brand new again and again. In fact, around 75% of all copper ever mined is still in use today, all thanks to recycling.

WE ACCEPT
TYPES OF
At Phoenix Recycling, we take almost every type of copper scrap, whether it’s pure, mixed, coated, or part of a larger component. If it’s got copper in it, there’s a good chance we can recycle it!
CLEAN,
HIGH-VALUE
COPPER
COPPER NO. 1
This copper is bare and uncoated with no paint, solder, or corrosion. It includes flat bars, pipe offcuts, and thick tubing. Since it’s already in great condition, it can be easily melted down and turned into new electrical wiring, busbars, copper rods, and industrial components.
COPPER BRIGHT & SHINY WIRE
This scrap is stripped copper wiring with no insulation or contamination, making it one of the most valuable types of scrap copper. Once recycled, it’s used in power cables, transformers, motors, and energy-efficient wiring systems.
MIXED &
CONTAMINATED
COPPER
Copper No. 2/Tinned/Burnt Clip
Copper No. 2 includes bare copper that has paint, tinning, or slight corrosion, often found in old electrical components, roofing materials, and industrial wiring. After processing, it’s reused in electrical components, industrial fittings, and alloyed copper products.
Copper DOMESTIC
Domestic copper includes pipes, plumbing fixtures, and fittings that may have brass attachments, welds, or soldered joints. It’s commonly recycled into new copper alloys, pipes, and industrial tubing.
COPPER FROM
SPECIFIC ITEMS
CAR LOOMS
These are copper wiring harnesses from vehicles used in lighting, ignition systems, and engine components. Once recycled, they’re refined into new car wiring, transformers, and power cables.
Copper Brass Radiators
Copper brass radiators are found in older vehicles and industrial HVAC systems, and they contain high-purity copper. Once processed, they’re turned into new heat exchangers, refrigeration units, and vehicle cooling systems.
Copper Ali Radiators – Loose Only
These radiators contain copper tubes and aluminium fins. As long as they’re free of steel or plastic, they’re recycled into new radiators, industrial cooling systems, and HVAC components.
COATED OR
INSULATED
COPPER
PVC Copper 35%, 45%, 65%
These are copper cables coated in PVC insulation. The percentage refers to how much copper is inside; the higher the percentage, the more valuable the cable. Once recycled, it’s used in new electrical wiring, data cables, and power transmission lines.
ARMOURED CABLE
These are heavily insulated copper cables with layers of PVC and steel, commonly used in construction, power transmission, and industrial applications. The copper inside is extracted and reused in new underground cables, industrial power lines, and telecommunications networks.
COPPER
LEFTOVERS &
BYPRODUCTS
COPPER SWARF
These tiny copper shavings and turnings are byproducts of machining and manufacturing. Instead of going to waste, they are cleaned, melted down, and reused in electrical connectors, plumbing fittings, and industrial alloys.
HOT WATER CYLINDERS
Many older hot water cylinders contain copper linings. Even if they’re wrapped in steel or insulation, we can process them to recover the copper inside. Once refined, it’s used in new water heaters, energy-efficient plumbing, and thermal heat exchangers.
HOW IS COPPER
RECYCLED?
The copper recycling process ensures maximum material recovery while reducing environmental impact.
-
1.
Sorting &
Processing
Copper is sorted by type (bare, mixed, or coated copper). Any insulation, solder, or attachments are removed to ensure high-purity recycling.
-
2.
Melting
The clean copper is melted at over 1,000°C. During melting, impurities are removed, leaving behind pure, high-quality copper.
-
3.
Casting &
Repurposing
The refined copper is cast into ingots, rods, or sheets, ready to be used in electrical wiring, construction materials, and industrial components.

COPPER?
Copper is one of the most recyclable materials out there because its quality doesn’t diminish after being recycled. It’s strong, versatile, and used in everything from plumbing to electronics.
Cuts down on waste:
Copper doesn’t break down in landfills, so recycling keeps it in use instead of letting it go to waste.Saves energy & reduces emissions:
Recycling copper uses 85% less energy than mining and refining new copper, cutting carbon emissions and reducing the need for high-impact mining operations.Preserves natural resources:
Mining for copper damages ecosystems and requires large amounts of water and energy, while recycling keeps materials circulating in a closed loop.Supports green technologies:
Recycled copper is a key component in electric vehicles, solar panels, and wind turbines, playing a huge role in renewable energy and sustainability efforts.Creates a circular economy:
Because copper never loses its properties, it can be recycled, remanufactured, and repurposed indefinitely, reducing dependence on virgin materials.
By recycling copper, you’re helping conserve energy, reduce waste, and support the industries driving a more sustainable future while putting cash in your pocket for doing the right thing.
